Freesat is a great alternative when due to poor Terrestrial TV reception Freeview is not available. Freesat uses a small mini-dish and can be connected to existing Sky satellite dishes. Like Freeview it is a non-subscription free to view service with a great range of Digital TV and Radio stations.
Due to larger bandwidth available they are able to offer up to 150 TV, Radio and Interactive services, many more than Freeview and currently have 5 HD channels up and running across the UK.

Freeview is a non-subscription service enabling customers to receive digital TV through an aerial without costly monthly payments. This service is not to be confused with “Freesat” a similar product that receives its signals via the use of a Satellite Mini-Dish as opposed to a Terrestrial Aerial.
Since its launch in 2002 numerous TV channels have been added to Freeview platform totalling to-date, around 50 Digital TV channels including 5 HD channels and 25 Digital Radio Stations. No matter what you’re into there will always be something to watch across its entertainment, news, children’s and music channels.
Stage one of the digital switchover in Midhurst transmitter & its 2 relay transmitters (Haslmere &Steyning) serving parts of West Sussex started Wednesday (29th February)
If you are using Freeview / Top up or BT Vision via an aerial you will require to do a first stage re-tune on your digibox or digital TV set.
If you are still using your TV set via analogue transmissions you would of lost BBC2, you have until 14thMarch to covert to some form of digital before stage two is completed when the remaining analogue channels (BBC1, ITV, CH4 & CH5) will disappear forever.
On Wednesday 14th March will see the second stage of switchover, after you perform another re-tune of your digibox or TV set you will see the final Freeview configuration, including Freeview HD for the first time.
